Dogtown End of Season Party

Our Winter '12 Season is coming to a close. Let's celebrate our Kickball victories, ties and even some losses in style at the Room-Santa Monica. Have a drink or 4 with your new friends and reminisce about the season that was. Take photos, dance or just chill...you can do it all!

The Room-Santa Monica is a hidden gem. Drinks are strong and the atmosphere is relaxed. It's a bit difficult to find from Santa Monica Blvd. So go on 14th St (North Side of SM Blvd). The entrance to the parking lot and the lounge is off of 14th St. in back of Central Social.

Each registered player will get drink tickets. So please check in when you get to the club. The tickets are good for well drinks, beer or wine.

Teams and individuals that won bar tabs, you will be able to redeem your tabs at EOS.

Snap Yourself! will once again be at the party. So take as many pictures as you like!

Team Awards will also be handed out.

Remember to bring some cash. We will once again have our Charity Date Auction.

Remember...WE ALL HATE CANCER!!!

From 7pm-10pm the Room-SM will be exclusive to Kickball players and some friends. After 10pm it will open up to the public. But should you want to hang out and dance the night away, the Room-SM has reserved 2 tables/area just for us Kickballers...so no need to rush home to catch the latest Saturday Night Live skit (you're probably recording it anyways) stay and have fun!!!

DOGTOWN DOGS will be serving up "Irreverently Good Dogs" and tasty tots at the End of Season Party. Don't miss out!

Ron
What’s three letters and ends in –n? While Ron is also correct, the answer I was actually looking for isfun. Fun is normally what kickball is. Fun is normally what Ron has every Wednesday night. But week eight’s game just wasn’t F-U-N for any of our players. In fact, gauging by the numerous posts on the league Facebook page and some of the e-mails exchanged among captains, it seems like a lot of the league’s players didn’t have fun last week.
Sports are competitive by nature and everyone loves winning, but I think many people in the league forget that we’re playing an elementary school sport in a social setting. While I can’t speak for WAKA, it seems reasonable to assume that the primary goal of starting the league – and for any player who joins – is to have fun. Scoring points, winning games, getting discounts on booze at Busby’s, going to other events and making new friends are all secondary or added bonuses.
Unfortunately, some players – and even entire teams – get too caught up in winning that their strategizing, competitiveness and intensity prevent other players and teams from accomplishing the primary goal of having fun. Of Ron’s team members who played last week, everyone played great and we had one of our strongest games offensively and defensively. But our efforts were ultimately fruitless. Not only did we not secure the win, but there was more drama on the field than a sorority house.
Instead of a game recap, I’m writing this as a call to all teams and players to make sure that three-letter word shows up on the fields more often. Let’s not forget that kickball is supposed to be fun. Smile more and encourage your players, even when they miss a catch or strike out. Don’t yell at the refs or other players. And refs, make good calls and stand by them. These simple things and more can all contribute to making the game and league fun – what they’re supposed to be. Play on!

Our cartoonist was out this week.

Find the Kleat

With 7 and 0 on the line, Find the Kleat was entering a match-up against FreeBase without FTK figurehead Val Wang. Val is spending the week somewhere over the rainbow at Ultra in Miami, but was still concerned enough with our game that she texted us 10 minutes before it even started to find out if we won. You must be having fun if you forgot about the 3 hour time difference. Don’t worry Val, keep fist pumping and we’ll keep taking care of business. Penetration on 3. Ugh!

Greenhorea
First there was kicking, then there was some additional kicking, but more-so for Tramp Stamps. However, we had more dogs on our side of the field, so that's a moral victory. Long story short, that "Hunger Games" movie looks like camel crap.

--Joshua blasting Abbey in the back of the head.  Jsssssinghoff, always the gentleman, immediately apologized profusely.  Because he's a JK kind of man... always classy.
--Thomas ready to fight a ref after a poor call. Again.  Then quickly getting over it and dancing to the beats Balls Deep was bumping...while Co-cappy J tried OH SO hard to do the C-walk (or sea walk??) behind him.
--Elizabeth videotaping/narrating the game action, during which she spotted Dubs & Vik "conspiricizing".  Grammar Queen Lindsay gently helped her out with a nudge in the right verbal direction.
--Jenna ducking out of the way of the camera during Liz's filming sesh, desperate not to be seen anywhere in the vicinity of Co-cappy J.
--Jeff giving Shoeless Josh's BEST EMAIL EVER a cold read at Scott's B-Day Bash.  We shall never forget.
--B-day Boi Scottie 2 Hottie rolling in with Ashley and his sistahs in tow... just in time for the bottom of the 5th.
--Michelle sacrificing some much-needed sleep before her big trip to Japan to party with JK at the Varner B-day bash.

Kickelodeon vs. Kicks McGee

In what will undoubtedly go down in the history books as the Most Orange Kickball Game in the WAKA Dogtown League of the Winter 2012 Season (or MOKGWDLW2012S for short), Kickelodeon met up with Kicks McGee in a battle most confusing for figuring out who was on which team. In the end, the Orange prevailed, and beat the Orange 6-1.

Big Swinging Kicks vs "Team" --- (7-0)

We did win a broken arm though. A team member of BWK's hit our 3rd baseman. throwing her 3 feet back onto the ground. She now has a broken arm from his football-esque moves.

Some Thoughts:

1.  Draw Something is addictive.  But don't play it when your drunk.  The pictures you draw are NEVER what you envisioned in your head.

2.  Tramp Stamps are pretty classy.  Everyone should get one.

3.  Damn...the season is almost over.

4.  Is it really already Spring?

5.  We won.  Winning is fun...but so is sex.

TRAMP STAMPS!

Whiskey Kick Loves Kickball

Chris Brown that Pitch forfeited against us. They didn't have enough girls and they were angry with us because of it. We're sorry, we still had fun scrimmaging with you guys. We're sorry you left early to go to the bar, we were just hitting out practice stride. Friends?
