-Our End of Season Party is scheduled for Saturday, October 1st. Exact time is TBD, although the party will be at Yankee Doodles on the Promenade. All registered Dogtown players get free drink tickets and food for the night. Fun activities include pool, darts, and a number of other awesome time games.

- Flip Cup tournament at Brennan's after Week 8 of games (September 21)! $5 per person, best out of 3 for early rounds and best out of 5 in the finals. Still working on prizes for the winning team... as soon as we figure out the prizes we'll let you know.
- Charity Photo Shoot! One of our league members, J Pinder, is a professional photographer and has volunteered his services to shoot photos for a sexy 12-month Dogtown Calendar. Ideally, we'd love for each team to represent a month. However in order for this to happen we need all of you to volunteer! If you'd like to model for this calendar and represent your team, email J at jbpinder@gmail.com. Check out his portfolio here. Calendars will be sold online and at EOS. All proceeds will go towards our charity.

Kick in a Box= Winning!!
With one of our best attended games this season, we achieved another underdog win against One Kick Wonder. Our victory was based on strong defense and a killer home run by Nick Goffi.

After a rough Labor Day weekend, team Kick in a Box had to forego attendance at Brennan’s for the week. We look forward to a joyous reunion and much flip cup this coming week! Go Team!

A dark cloud loomed over Oakwood Park last Wednesday. Earlier in the day Whiskey Kick HQ received another ransom demand and was sent another photo of our beleaguered and kidnapped co-captains:
Just as long as you keep losing games in the regular season your captains will remain safe. We even took them, as torture mind you, to a Steelers Bar somewhere in Europe.

This note was all we needed to go on. We fired up the Whiskey jet and sent Crosby and some team members on a mission to find this torture den. The 11 of us that remained vowed to play the best we could until we had word that our captains were safe.
We started the game out strong; our line-up was mixing it up at the plate and making some things happen score wise. Adam B, in a stunning example of self-sacrifice, bunted and began running bases. He wasn’t the only star out there. Ashley M dedicated herself to moving players around. Addison and Miles brought some heavy feet to bear and helped WK score some runs.
Defensively we held strong, Ryan A made the grass field his bitch as he ended kicker after kickers attempts at getting on base. Miles and Addison again proved their worth by scoring out after out. Carrie G was all about keeping the ball in front and throwing smart when she saw where the base-runners stood. Alex M continues to further his knowledge of this uniquely American sport. Mel M showed her support for the squad by constantly telling us what we needed to do and then showing us if we didn’t perform to her satisfaction. Chris B and Rachel M brought kickball sexiness to a new level of awesome with some heads up playmaking.
Things were looking good for us. We were up 4-2 and looking at a win, confident Crosby and Strike Force Team W would have our captains back. Then sometime in the 3rd or 4th inning tragedy struck; we were alerted via our Whiskey Kick Wrist Communicators that Strike Force W had seemingly just missed our captains and their kidnappers. Seeing that our leaders were still in enemy hands WK had to make a fateful decision. We decided we would go ahead and win the game since that’s what Mal and Kel would want us to do. Fate had other plans however as easy mistakes turned into a 2G1B rally. The end result being a 7-4 route of Whiskey Kick who retired to the Flip Cup table where domination was once again imminent.
Our search for our missing leaders continues and we pledge we will not rest until they are returned to us safely.
Find the Hole
Week 6 brought FTH against a very good and very good looking, Looking to Score team. Fortunately for FTH, Looking to Score only had 8 players at the beginning of the game. With only 8 players in the outfield FTH was able to fill the holes and successfully score runs. With aggressive base running and even more assertive defensive dominance an MVP style catch buy Sara (I love catching fly balls)Weiner confirmed the win. FTH was able to penetrate Looking to Score’s holes. Unfortunately for FTH, Amie Barber, their star motivator and cosmetology specialist lost her arms. Game 6 – Looking to Score = Holes Filled
Why do the DPs look so tired?
Last week’s throttling by then-#1 ranked Balls Deep had them heads-between-tails, dubbing the contest “SHART NIGHT 3-D.” This is the same team that put up this season’s single-game scoring record and sh*t talked their way through the post-Penmar GMOT. (FTH still wants to “perscribe” theirs—but our 3-man representing at pub-crawl-golf still won us a few allies)
This Wednesday’s victory was played solidly. But cardinal red didn’t seem totally in it. Crapping out with bases loaded, the power squad went virtually scoreless until Greg finally made it home late in the 2nd with some strategic RKI-ing by… (hell, I don’t even remember. Someone whose mother loves them.) And yet hints of the lackadaisical appeared off the field as well. Players strolled in later than usual. Only six (minus the umps) went to Brennan’s afterward. Warm-ups were unenthusiastic, and people opted to squawk about their non-kickball lives rather than practice kicking.

One could presume the wind was taken out of the DP sails. But Damon’s impressive debut at-bat, a nice sac kick by Lori, a sassy catch by Julie (Luke caught all the other ones) and other solid fundamentals demonstrated the team’s prowess, while new words like “chunt” and “vag-ball” only contributed to the donkey-punching vocabulary. This is a talented team, giving up only 1 run to the much-improved TIABI team less their newlywed captain(s).
The problem now is motivation. With the bloodthirsty FTH on deck, and a rematch with undefeated Hot Box on the horizon, Los DPs have to really look at themselves and consider: do they want to win this season? They certainly have the capability.
But do you yell and scream in the moment, or do you actually think about what you’re doing as you play? Defensively, what balls got past you in the last game? Without considering fault, what can you do to prevent it? Offensively, do you care whether you’re an automatic out? Or do you want to learn what’s happening with your kick in order to improve? With a big 25-player lineup, the game is often won by what mix of players show up on a given night.
And when a lot of your players aren’t into it, against a solid opponent you’re going to lose.
Approaching the end-of-season and playoff kickball, this win brings Los DPs firmly back into the competition. But it also serves as a wake-up call, and a reminder of a few undeniable truths:
1) No team is invincible.
2) You have to be in it to win it.
3) In Dogtown, no matter who you are, respect is earned.
